From the beginning, Total organized hundreds of events in Doha.
In 1994, the TOTAL team started to grow. In order to get more visibility in QatarPays QatarShow more, we organized official visits and lot of events. During those years, I arranged hundreds of official visits to Ras Laffan Industrial City, North Field offshore site, Al Khaleej offshore site, Messaied and Dukhan Industrial City. We often invited different TV channels and Media journalists from FrancePays FranceShow more, Belgium and China to introduce them to our projects in the country. Different Total entities and even students also had the opportunity to visit our sites. After he was appointed in June 1995, Thierry Desmarest visited the affiliate as the new Chairman and CEO of Total.
In February 1997, we organized the inauguration ceremony of Qatargas It was a very memorable event that lasted 3 days where the official guests discovered the LNG plant, the port and the first LNG carrier, “Al Khor.”They also enjoyed a cultural show including camels, horses and falcons,gifts from H.E Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Minister of Energy and Industry.
In the Nineties, there was no internet and all the communications had to be sent through faxes. I collected all the important news from the daily local newspapers in English and Arabic. The most important articles were translated to English. Afterwards, I sent everything by fax to our Headquarters in Paris.
In 1997, we were the only International Oil & Gas company to sponsor the second Doha Oil & Gas Exhibition. I can never forget the 5th edition of this event: I spent 48 hours continuously in the Exhibition center in order to arrange and complete the stand! Those were very enjoyable days.
In the following years, we started supporting sports activities and Total was the sponsor of the first QatarPays QatarShow more International Desert Horse Marathon in 1997, Emir’s Sword (horse race) from 2007 onwards and QatarPays QatarShow more Total Open (tennis) from 2001 onwards. We were only two persons in charge of organizing the whole event, including the Women’s Tennis tournament until 2011!
